Physics, AP Physics, ACT, SAT and PSAT

Biography

Shiuan graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara with a degree in Physics, where he combined rigorous quantitative study with a deep curiosity about how mathematics explains the physical world. His independent research in astrophysics (developing orbital simulations and analyzing lunar motion) reflects both intellectual precision and a genuine fascination with discovery.

During his time at UCSB, he also served as President of the Gaucho Tour Association, leading an 80-member team and overseeing recruitment, training, and leadership development. This experience strengthened his ability to communicate complex ideas with warmth, confidence, and clarity; qualities that define his work as a tutor today.

Approach to Tutoring

Grounded in the belief that true mastery stems from understanding rather than memorization, Shiuan helps students build analytical reasoning skills and academic confidence. His lessons are structured, methodical, and tailored to each student’s goals, whether refining test-taking strategy for the SAT and ACT or deepening conceptual understanding in AP Physics. His aim is not just to improve scores, but to cultivate intellectual independence and curiosity that endures beyond the exam.

When Not Tutoring

Outside of tutoring, Shiuan is an accomplished photojournalist whose work has appeared in UCSB’s Daily Nexus. Through DSLR and drone photography, he has captured stories ranging from campus events to scientific projects, bringing the same precision, creativity, and attention to detail to his lens as he does to his teaching.
